| I have a ways to go to meet my goals, but there are a lot of modifications that I haven't done yet. I am pushing this motor pretty hard. I don't really expect it to last too long, especially since it is nearly stock. A built stroker motor should get me much closer to my goal: More boost, more nitrous, more fuel, more traction.
Motor: Pretty easy decisions on this one. In the ls1 world an iron block 409 is considered a very stout set up. I am not sure of every detail but a forged stroker crank, some very good rods and pistons, and to top it off I hope to try some AFR heads. The AFR heads have a deck thickness that is twice that of the stock heads and should help seal things up nice as the cylinder pressures go through the roof. I am going to drop the compression ratio some too but not really sure how low to shoot for. Boost: Currently I am seeing a max of 65lb/hr of air. This turbo(T76) is rated to 95lb/hr. There is 30lb/hr(300fwhp) available as soon as I have a motor that can hold it. Nitrous: As of 5/12/04 the most I have tried to spray is a single stage 75shot. The twin nozzle set up I have is rated up to 300hp. I have window switches on both stages so I can dial in exactly how much I want and when i want it. I am still trying to decide what to go with. Fuel: I have a twin walbro 340m in tank fuel pump set up right now, and it is running through the stock lines. The 2nd pump is wired to come on at 4psi of boost. No one can really say how far this set up will go, but I would say 800+rwhp. I will keep a close eye on my fuel pressure as I push it harder. Once it is maxed out I plan on building a separate fuel system just for the nitrous system. Traction: My best 60' is 1.63sec. I tried to turn up the shot coming out of the hole, but that resulted in a 4wheel drift move that was pretty much out of control. I am still running on the stock 265/75/16 Firestones that came with the truck. I don't plan on anything too drastic. Most likely just a nice street tire with a little more meat on each corner. At some point I expect some trouble from my front and rear differentials, which are still both stock. When they give me trouble I hope to get some 3/4ton parts under there. The 3/4 ton front differential has an E-locker available, so it would be a true 4wd. There are lots of other things I will probably mess with along the way. Things like a larger down pipe, better exhaust, some kind of super cooler or an ice filled reservoir to feed the intercooler and alcohol injection. Oh yeah, can't forget the safety equipment. I have pushed it pretty hard and other than a fire extinguisher I have no safety equipment at all. It is about time to do something about that. |
